Father Edward J Flanagan

He has always been my Hero, but not yet a Saint who passed away, the year I was born 1948, and I arrived at Boystown, in 1961, Graduating in 1966, then a Family Teacher, in 1976 - 1977,  plus a Parent of another Graduate, in 1993. Finally, inducted into the Hall of Fame, in 2003, with him always being my Inspiration.

In the BSA’s (Boyscouts Of  America’s) Family / Faith based program we don’t lack

for,“Finding  Courage”, nor do  we, for Models of Courage. A great example of, the latter, is *

St. George, whose former Feast Date was April 23rd, who is the  Patron Saint England,

Portugal, Venice, Genoa, and most noteworthy, for Soldiers, and Others in uniform, for Service Organizations, including BSA,  GSA, etc. George lived in the 2nd, and 3rd Centuries,

as a Soldier for the Roman Emperor Diocletian,

who sent him on expeditions to Persia, and England, which he didn’t become the Patron Saint of the latter, until  the Battle of Agincourt, in  1415, by King  Henry V. In 298, the emperor required all Soldiers, to  worship the Roman Gods; so George left the Army. Later, the  emperor  outlawed Christianity, and George  confronted the emperor, to plead for his fellow Christians. He became the unidentified hero, who tore up the edict, against the Christians, which caused him to be tortured, and eventually beheaded. For Centuries, after his passing, the Legend, “George, and the Dragon”, was popular. Although, it is fictional, it characterized, the real St. George, who valiantly fought evil.

Note: The Legend is available, upon request.

Saint / Priest / Scout / Leader

Whether you  believe in Saints, or not, they are still someone to Emulate. He  is a 20th Century Saint, that was born in Poland, and was a Scout, Leader, and Priest who assisted the sick in prison, where he died for his Faith. The regular size cards, are in pdf, if you click on the black underlind words above, for cards on pdf.

            “Keep It Simple & Spiritual”

I have been, and will continue to collect Saint stories, which numbers close to 1,000, but this one, just received, is unique, because it includes a Hero, at Columbin, in 1999, included on the Story of St Herculanus, because both died for their belief in God. Cassie is not a Saint, because a mircle has not yet been proven, in her name, but with the Foundation, in her name, does much for other Youth today, and in the future.

It supports my belief that, our Youth of today, are more willing to make the right choices, when challenged, by ones piers, that I see every day, working with Youth, in the BSA, Boys Town, and Church.
